Urban fantasy author
Kathryn Dean writes witty, atmospheric urban fantasy mysteries set in Britain, blending forensic investigation, occult crime, and slow-burn supernatural tension.
Her stories are filled with magical mysteries, dark folklore, and heroines determined to solve cases that should be impossible—no matter how dangerous the truth might be.
She lives in the North East of England with her four children, a long-suffering husband who is slowly getting used to questions like “do you think a camera could pick up magical resonance from a murder scene?”, and a very devoted sprocker spaniel called Molly—who may or may not have inspired a certain canine companion in her books.
When she’s not writing, Kathryn is usually reading fantasy, drinking tea, or happily disappearing down research rabbit holes. She holds degrees in archaeology and law, purely because she loves learning—and because both occasionally come in surprisingly handy when writing about ancient secrets and modern crimes.
